2023-24 MS and HS County Band Auditions

The virtual audition submission is now open for the 2023-24 DCMEA MS and HS County Band!

Please review the following reminders:
Reminders:
  • All videos must be submitted as an attachment to the Google Forms.
  • Videos must be submitted by 11:59pm on January 9th, 2024.
    • No videos will be accepted on January 10th.
  • Only videos of those students who are registered may participate.
  • Submit only one video per student with all audition materials performed in the same video.
    • Videos are not to be edited/spliced together from multiple takes.
    • All details for required scales and rudiments are found on the PDF below.
    • Videos are limited to 5 minutes in length.
  • Student videos should follow the procedure below:
  1. State your name and school.
  2. Play scale/rudiment 1 according to the instructions.
  3. Play scale/rudiment 2 according to the instructions.
  4. Winds and Mallets - Play chromatic scale.
  5. Play excerpt according to the instructions.
  • Students should record with the best audio quality possible.
    • Make sure that microphones are not covered or pressed against another surface or material.
    • Make sure the device is close enough to record sound at an acceptable level but not so close that the audio 'clips', or distorts (recommendation of 3-6 ft away).
    • Choose a location with minimal/no background noise.
    • Do some test recordings to be sure that the video will showcase your true tone quality.
  • In an effort to avoid the stress that results from the need for a “perfect take,” we will employ the same restart policy used at in-person auditions.
    • Students will be allowed one restart per scale.  The second time through the scale will be judged.
    • Students will be provided with a midpoint in each audition excerpt and allowed ONE restart only.
      • If a student wishes to restart before they reach the midpoint, they should start at the beginning.  They may not restart again.
      • Once a student passes the midpoint, they must make any restarts from the midpoint.

Audition requirements for all instruments can be found here, in one document per level:

Also, remember that any students who successfully auditioned into District Band are eligible to be pre-slotted into county band without audition; however, your students must record a video and post it to the appropriate Google Form upload link to accept their preslot.  (For example: “Hi, my name is _________ and I am accepting my pre-slotted seat in county band.”)  Lack of a video will result in the forfeit of that seat.

Best of Luck!!  If you have questions or issues please consult your band director.
